What is the definitions of CNC interpolation?

In CNC machine tools, the tool cannot be moved strictly according to the required curve. The curve to be processed can only be approximated by the polygonal line.

The machine tool numerical control system determines the process of the tool movement track according to a certain method. It can also be said that some data on the curve is known. A method of calculating an intermediate point between known points according to an algorithm is also called “densification of data points”.

According to the information of the input part program, the numerical control device densifies the space between the start point and the end point of the curve described by the program segment, thereby forming a required contour trajectory, and the “data densification” function is called “interpolation.”
